Statement of Purpose
On Saturday January 14th, The People’s Lobby of South Carolina will be called into session on the grounds of The South Carolina Statehouse.
A grassroots coalition of citizens, organizations, and communities, we the assembled unite to build inclusive solutions to the longstanding social, political, and economic injustices that have plagued our state.
We the undersigned believe that if we are ever to reclaim our democracy from the grip of the entrenched powers and special interests that currently dominate our state legislature, we must first act to end the politics of distract-and-divide that for so long have kept generations of South Carolinians from uniting.
Occupy Columbia invites you to join us on this historic occasion as we work together to ensure the prosperity of our state and collective futures.
With Peace, Love, and Solidarity,
Occupy Columbia
While I was in South Carolina I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know the “occupiers” at the State Capital. Amongst them were a small but diverse group of minds, all dedicated to making sense of government and finding solutions to the problems found within the system.
I encourage everyone in South Carolina that has Saturday, January 14, 2012 off from work (and if you don’t; perhaps take it off) to stop by the State House in Columbia, talk to your fellow citizens, learn about your Representatives, and engage in your community.
