Occupy Government: Run for Office

Occupy Government: Run for Office

“These peaceful protesters are very much aligned with the Green Party’s platform and values. I want to see the people occupying Wall Street bring about the major reforms they are demanding. It’s my hope that they will carry this energy and excitement to their home towns, build their local Green Party, and run as candidates in 2012. And in 2013 we hope to see them occupying their state capitols not as protesters, but to claim seats of power in government.” – Asher Platts, Maine Green Party Activist

A couple days after the Occupy Wall Street protests began, I attended a Green Party meeting in Denver. There representatives from the “October2011” group presented their plans to “occupy” Freedom Plaza in D.C. I had attended the Green Party meetings as part of my personal “Tour to End the War.”

My political objective; to elect Ron Paul as President and elect the first Green Party member into the U.S. Congress.

My social objective; to liberate the world from hierarchy, from centralized power:

After attending the “Occupy Iowa” protest in Des Moines last Sunday, I decided to write an article expressing my thoughts on the movement. As I am currently in my second state of my campaign to rally political change, I have a hard time taking these protesters seriously until they step up and actually start taking action. They are protesting the power of big banks to manipulate public policy, but how many of them actually bank at local banks and credit unions? They want to end the War, but how many are on helping an true anti-War candidate get into the White House? They are pointing their fingers at those with money and power, yet are unwilling to accept that they too have money and power.

I give credit to Occupy for at least getting these topics in the general dialectic. People are talking about these issues at coffee shops and bars. However, I ask that you don’t fall for the same temptation as have generation before you, that talking about it is good enough.

I challenge those protesting, and those “supporting” them to act rather than speak, to do rather than protest (this goes for the TEA Party as well):

Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.” – Rainer Maria Rilke

If you have a bank account at one of the major banks you cannot protest these banks. Go home, withdrawal your money, and put it in local bank or credit union. That is how you protest the big banks.

If you are not helping elect Ron Paul for President then you cannot protest the Wars. Go home, register Republican, and vote in your state’s Primary (or Caucus) for Ron Paul. That is how you protest the Wars.

If you are supporting either of the two corporate backed parties then you cannot protest Corporatism. Go home, find your local Green Party candidates and help them get elected. That is how you protest Corporatism.

If you are not growing your own food, or helping others grow food, you cannot protest big Ag or Monsanto. Go home and start a Garden. That is how you protest Big Ag.

If are not taking care of your health, using basic nutrition, herbs, yoga and meditation, then you cannot protest the Insurance Industry and Big Pharma. Go home and get healthy, that is how you protest the Drug Industry.

You protest the Empire by building the Republic.

You protest oppression by acting for yourself.

You are rich, you are powerful. If you are not doing something with your wealth and power then you cannot complain about the world you get. That is all the 1% do, is pretend that they can’t do anything about it. If you make $47,000 a year you are the 1% of the world. Take responsibility for your position of power. That is how you protest the 1%.

If you are pretending like you are poor, or unable to do anything to help those less fortunate around the world, then you cannot protest the 1% not helping you. Go home and donate $20 to a good cause, help the poor of the world get clean water. Prove that you are willing to make the sacrifices that you are asking others to make. That is how you protest Wealth.

If you are not willing to run for office then you cannot protest the policies passed by those that do. Go home and file papers to run for Congress as a Green. That is how you protest Congress.

If you see a problem in the world around you, it is your responsibility to do what you can to fix it.

Don’t blame others. Don’t point fingers.

…beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will…” – Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

By blaming others you reinforce their power, and diminish your own.

No one else is responsible for fixing the problems that you see.

Take Responsibility for Yourself.

Acknowledge that there are things that you can do to change the world, and that sitting around a park is not one of them.

Keep your head about you, organize, and act consistently.

You will know… when you are calm, at peace, passive.” Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

It is not who is in power that is the problem. It is power itself. It is the consolidation of power. It is the fact that a small group of people are able to influence the entire world. It doesn’t matter who this small group of people is.

To fight the Empire is to be infected by its derangement … Whoever defeats the Empire becomes the Empire; it proliferates like a virus … thereby it becomes its enemies.” – Philip K. Dick

If we attack tonight our humanity is lost…Command wants us to fight like machines…but we are not machines, and if we behave like them then what is the point of winning? Command is going to ask you to attack…I’m asking you not to…If even one bomb drops….our future is lost. Please stand down, give…the time to protect the future that we are all fighting for…If you are listening to this; you are the Resistance. ” Terminator: Salvation
