Open Primary State

South Carolina is an Open Primary State. That means that any voter in South Carolina can choose to vote in the Republican Primary on January 21st. Rep. Paul leads all GOP Candidates in his support from Independents and Democrats. I high voter turn out could easily lead to an upset this Saturday, and a Ron Paul victory in South Carolina.

Nevada, Caucus States, Open Primary States and California

After the election in South Carolina, the campaign and national grassroots effort will shift toward Nevada, leaving Florida to the local grassroots. The strategy is that a Win in South Carolina (or even a strong showing) will help put Paul in the top-three (top-tier) of Florida; which being a take-all state a candidate must win in order to receive any delegates. Being such a big state, the cost of that win is huge, and Paul is currently polling at fourth in the single-digits; in addition, Florida lost half its delegate after moving its Primary ahead with consent of the National GOP. In 2008, Ron Paul won Second Place in Nevada, and strong effort there this year may lead to a Win.

After Nevada the Campaign will most likely focus on Caucus States where Paul has done well in the past, along with a general effort Nationally. The Ron Paul Grassroots will be crucial to a Paul Nomination. Outreach to Democrats and Independents in Open Primary States is critical.

Electability

Ron Paul’s electability as the Republican Nominee is based in part on his electability in the General Election this November. Dr. Paul’s message of Liberty and Peace draws supporters from all political spectrum, and many who have become disenchanted with the electoral system as a whole and would potentially opt-out of voting if Ron Paul was not involved.

First Against Obama in Three-Way Race

The reality is that either a single third-candidate, or a group of alternative candidates, will take a substantial percentage of the vote in 2012. Most of that will come from the Republican Party if a non-Ron Paul candidate is Nominated.
