The connection between our minds and our bodies has long been intangible to us. We can measure our weight, blood pressure, and bone density; our capacity to hear, see, feel, and taste. But our thoughts don’t fit on scales or in vials. It’s possible to share an inner experience with others by telling them about it, or writing a story or song, or even taking a photograph or drawing a picture, but it cannot be quantified or transferred directly. It’s those inner experiences — and what we do with or despite them — that make us who we are.
